Paper Issues Crop Weekend projects

Handmade Holiday Blog Hop

I am starting to get so excited for the holidays.  My son started a new job and I am going to give this to him to give to the test track car drivers who work with him.  I had such fun creating it and embellishing it with The Twinery twine.

For this project you will need approximately six bags of fun size candy.  You will need to purchase a clay pot, a round Styrofoam ball and a tree shape, some acrylic paints to paint your pot, a 1/4" wooden dowel and a glue gun with extra glue sticks to adhere all that yummy chocolate.  I used six different colors of The Twinery twine on my project and just love how festive it came out.  You can see the colors below.

You are going to want to paint your pot and then glue the round styrofoam ball into the pot.  This will help it be more stable.  The candy weighs a lot when the tree is full.  I took the dowel and cut it down to the right size.  I pushed the bottom of the dowel up into the tree until I felt it was high enough to be secure.  I then made a hole in the ball in the pot and pushed the dowel into the ball.  I did put some hot glue around both openings in the ball  and at the bottom of the tree for added stability.

You are going to start the fun part now with hot gluing the chocolate onto the tree.  I used the top flap of the candy bar to put my glue and held it in place until it was set.  I used high temp on my glue gun to make sure it would adhere well but was careful not to melt the chocolate.

Here is the tree all decorated.  I used ribbon stiffener to wet the twine and then wrapped it around a round kitchen tool.  I let it sit overnight and pulled it off into this lovely spiral the next day.  I used some fun Doodlebug Sugarplum stickers to embellish my tree further.  Thanks for looking and happy holidays.

Thanksgiving Treat Holders

Happy Halloween Everyone:

It's Saturday which means that it is tutorial day here at Digi Playground.  I decided to make some Thanksgiving treat holders as I am responsible for bringing treats and desserts as my assignment.  Did you know that many of our files include a full color cut file option which I just find so very helpful when planning out what colors/patterns of paper to use for my project.  I usually go back to the Digi Playground web site and take a photo of the original project and then reference that when organizing my cut mat by file and papers used.  I love this little turkey and cup cake wrappers are always so much fun.  This cut file was made by our very own Samantha Walker and is called 3D Cupcake Wrapper Turkey and you can find it here.  

 

I love making multiple different designs which are tied together by the paper line that I used.  In  this case it was Fall Friends from Doodlebug.  The cut file on the right is called Thankful Short Envelope Bag and is by the Uber talented Jamie Cripps.  You can find this file here.  I took the white patterned leaf and laid that cut file over the background file and made the leaf file larger but keeping it smaller than the background so that I could add the second leaf which is red.

Party Owls

It's owl party time.  Isn't this treat box so cute with matching twine to tie it together.  I used my Silhouette to cut out this adorable owl box and used some fall Doodlebug papers.  Be sure to check out these and so many more awesome colors at The Twinery store.  The colors that I used are Solid Peapod, Solid Cappuccino, Marigold and Mandarin.  I love that there are so many colors to choose from and I never have a problem matching the twine to my project.

Halloween Popcorn Treat Box

It is October and time to start celebrating Halloween.  I love making adorable things for Halloween and fell in love with this Halloween Scene Popcorn Box by Jamie Cripps.  Jamie adores Halloween so I always look forward to seeing what she will be creating for cut files as well as the awesome decorations at her home.  You can find this cut file here in the DigiPlayground store.  I used some cute Doodlebug October 31 Collection papers and embellishments for this adorable box.

Twine Organization Cards

Anita here with a fun way to organize your colors of twine so you know which one's you have.  This system is perfect for popping into your purse or crop bag and taking to your favorite scrapbook store to match the colors of your twine perfectly with your card stock and patterned paper.

I used a Silhouette cut file of an embroidery floss card and increased the size and cut a bunch for my project.  I used some adhesive on both sides of the card and ran three colors on twine on each card.  I also cut some extra cards for any new colors that I will of course just have to have.  It was actually great to see what colors I do have.  I am able to fit most of them in my fab desk but some are in another cabinet and now I have all the colors right at my fingertips for perfect project selection.
